My Regular ThruLines Review at Ancestry

I don’t see any new ThruLines under my name, so I will see if I am behind on my brother’s ThruLines

Brother Jon and Morgan

This one looks interesting:

However, when I check my McMaster DNA Tree, Morgan is already there:

Morgan looks like one I would not have missed.

Jon and Catherine

Maybe this one is difficult to evaluate. I think I will skip this for now. I get a lot of Howorth ThruLines, but this one with Heyworth could be tricky. Jon has 7 Howorth matches all potentially descending from James Howorth:

More on the Howorth Line

I can go back a generation with a person whose DNA I administer. Her name is Joyce. Here is what I have for a Howorth DNA Tree:

However, this has not been updated for some time. Apparently, I had some faith that the Abraham branch was correct. Here is what I have for an Ancestry Tree:

The fact that there are two Abrams in the tree is confusing.

Joyce’s New Matches

Here is one Joyce has with Linda:

I have a huge Hathaway DNA tree already, but there is room for more. I have so many Simon Hathaway matches that I have a tree just for Simon Hathaway born 1852. I’ll put in Linda as a floating tree and then attach her to my Ancestry Tree if she matches up.

Linda has a small tree:

Here is Coley in 1930:

Here is a lot of information in a family history book:

In 1900, James W was a farmer in Hathaways Mills, Florida:

Linda’s tree checks out:

Here is Simon Wing in 1850:

It looks like he was in North Carolina for a while. James is on the next page:

I just need to merge this Simon Wing Hathaway with the one in my tree.

Then I can add him to my Hathaway DNA Tree. This is the Simon Line of that tree:

The problem is that I do not see a Susan in the 1850 Census. So something may be wrong. Also the Simon W. Hathaway in the 1850 Census was 66, so he may have been born 1794.

Joyce and Linda do have a shared match with FinnishPast.

This shows Finnish going back to Margaret who I show on the 1850 Census. So why do I have Finnish going back to Susan on my Hathaway DNA Tree?

I’ll just create a floating tree for FInnish. This seems like a large brangch, so it would be worthwhile to check out.

His tree is private which makes it more difficult to check. Finnish has a half nephew at Ancestry who has this tree:

Compare that with this maternal side tree from Finnsh’s first cousin Frances:

This is a littile confusin as Mary Weeks is married to Jake Pitts in one tree and Charlie Pitts in another. However, they are both the child of Roxie Bailey.

All this to say that I believe I am on the right track. I should really be tracking Frances. However, I have started with Finnish, so will continue on. I built the tree on what I know:

These two get married in Alabama:

But if Maryetta was born in 1912, she was 13 or less at marriage? I guess we will have to go with that.

Here is something from the Geneva County Register:

Geneva County is not close to Majette, so something was going on.

5 Years later, Maryetta is 17, so that checks out from the 1930 Census. Charlie is a mail carrier.

From FindaGrave,  Charlie’s dad was a Reverend.

For some reason, the spouse is Mary Etta Rollins. Perhaps she remarried?

Rufus Jefferson Pitts

In the 1900 Census, Rufus is a day laborer:

Rufus was living as a farmer’s son in 1880:

Rufus’ father John lived through the Civil War.

According the ThruLines, Rufus’ mother was Margaret Ann Hathaway PItts. Here is some information from ThruLines:

If this is true, then Margaret died when Rufus was 1 month old and before the 1870 Census.

Looking at Rufus from the Hathaway Side

There may be some published Hathaway genealogies that would cover Rufus or other information from the Hathaway side.

Simon Wing has a large family. Does this record imply that Margaret’s son’s name was Lafayette and not Rufus?

I’m building this bridge from two difference directions but have not yet met in the middle. Margaret stays single for a while:

This that Margaret was born in South Carolina.

Here is the record that connects the two ends of the family:

Fortunately, Rufus lived a long time up to the Social Security period. Here he is Rufus Hathaway Pitts instead of Rufus Jeffereson Pitts in honor of his mother.

Correcting My Hathaway DNA Tree

It is time to get rid of Susan Hathaway.

I will replace her with Margaret Ann Hathaway born 1831? in South Carolina:

I added in the two siblings of Finnish who are Celesta and Daniel. So when Margaret’s famiy moved South I don’t know if they realized that they would get involved witht the losing side of the Civil War!

Adding James Hathaway to My Hathaway DNA Tree

I see that the James Hathaway Line is already in my Ancestry Tree:

The Line is in white down to Linda which means they are all in my Ancestry Tree (because I added the line earlier in the Blog). It would be good to know if Linda matches descendants of the Margaret Ann Line by DNA.

Linda matches Finnish, Gary and Daniel on this screen and others further down.

Here is the name of James’ wife:

The only problem now is that Margaret Ann is out of order chronologically. Here, I’ve moved Margaret Ann and descendants:

This is the Southern Branch of my Hathaway relatives.

Summary and Conclusions

  • I checked a McMaster descendant DNA match, but I already have tracked him.
  • I checked a Howorth descendant DNA match, but due to problems tracing this line genealogically and irregularities in the line I was looking at, I decided not to look at the Howorth Line at this time
  • I then looked at two Hathaway Lines that ended up in Florida. I fixed an error I had in my Hathway DNA tree and updated that already large DNA Tree.
